Biggest Wasabi farm in Japan

In a town called Otaka, a 30 min drive from Matsumoto is the largest wasabi farm in Japan. We got there just in time before they closed, shortly before dusk. The farm was built on a stoney river bed and beautifully irrigated as shown. The plants only need the river to be running through it to grow, although I can only imagine the amount of work to flatten, shape and uniform the stone beds. Wow!

Because we got there late, we missed out on the wasabi beer and wasabi ice cream, bummer.
