We were told there is a different person specializing in every step to a final batik piece. There is someone that designs the fabric by dripping wax, which we were told gets paid 10RM, a painter gets 10 RM per piece, the washer at 3RM per piece. They are sold for 80RM - 200RM depending on the fabric (cotton vs. silk) and the level of intricate design of the batik. We were told that the profit from the batiks go back to the workers and the village. The Kampong Kuten village has specialized in batiks for over 100 years.
