Ancient Forest

Kauri trees are ancient conifers that grew before the first mammals roamed the land. And you can see why. Huge girthed trees flowing with gum and leaves coated in wax tip down to bring water to the shallow root structure of the big tree. Pre-colonial days, the entire North Island was covered with Kauri Trees. Soon the logging became a lifestyle for many people and has now dwindled to I think 5-7% left. Mostly from fires for farland. To sit and gaze at something much ancient than a person's lifetime is a deep inate silence to bring us back to our human roots. We are all only 99.9% genetically different from one another. Kia Ora.
