Max, the tallest elephant among the herd was rescued from street performances. He has been sold several times and his age is unknown. When the owner could no longer earn money from Max, he was tortured by being dragged by a truck chained on one foot and shot in the knee. When he arrived at the sanctuary, he was emaciated. When we met him, we were told to keep our distance as he does not do well with other elephants around and not to approach him without his mahout (caretaker) around.
He is the tallest Asian Elephant in Thailand.
