"alatiris" berries

I never thought I would be able to relive one of my fondest childhood memories. Once a upon a time, I use to spend endless hot afternoons sittin' underneath an alatiris tree and eat these berries until I ruined by appetite for dinner. The branches on this tree hung low and wide so when overgrown, made a great hiding place for kids, not to mention all the ripe low hanging berries for snacking. The berries are green when young and turn apple red when they ripen.

Lucky for me, these trees were ALL over Phu Quoc island in south Vietnam. Every morning, I took a walk and ate all the low hanging berries. I loved that I was able to share this beautiful memory with Nolen.
